In this feature, we spotlight 10 visionary companies that are not only leading the charge in green technology but are also driving the transformation toward a cleaner, greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
1. Rivian
Focus: Electric Vehicles (EVs), Sustainable Transportation
Innovation: Rivian manufactures adventure-oriented electric vehicles, such as the R1T electric truck and R1S SUV. Its commitment to sustainable transportation and carbon-neutral vehicles positions it as a leading force in green tech, especially in the rugged outdoor space.
What it’s doing: At the end of 2024, Rivian and Volkswagen Group launched a joint venture to create cutting-edge software and electronics architectures and scale the electric vehicle platforms and architectures.
Through the partnership, they aim to strengthen consumer benefits surrounding innovation, scalable platform and cost savings potential for both sides, as well as enhancing its R&D cost efficiency and thus sustainably reduce overall expenditure in this area.
RJ Scaringe, founder and CEO of Rivian, described the collaboration as an important step forward in helping transition the world to electric vehicles.
“We’re thrilled to see our technology being integrated in vehicles outside of Rivian, and we’re excited for the future,” he said. “Rivian will continue to stay focused on creating best in class products and services that benefit our customers, helping to drive EV adoption.”
2. Ørsted
Focus: Offshore Wind Energy
Innovation: Denmark-based Ørsted is a leader in offshore wind farms and has made the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy, becoming one of the world’s largest producers of clean wind energy.
What’s it doing? In July 2023, the UK Government approved Hornsea Four, the fourth phase of the Hornsea Wind Farm, located approximately 43 miles off the Yorkshire coast. It is expected to generate 2.6 GW and power approximately 1 million homes.
Commenting on the approval, Jamie Baldwin, project director for the Hornsea Four Offshore Wind Farm, expressed enthusiasm about the project’s development.
He described it as “a major milestone not just for the project but also for the UK’s drive towards net zero and more homegrown renewable energy.”
Ørsted has also partnered with Hitachi Energy to implement Enhanced STATCOM technology for Hornsea Four. This next-generation grid stabilisation system will facilitate the integration of the wind farm’s electricity into the UK grid, enhancing grid stability and reliability.
In early 2025, the company initiated geotechnical surveys at the Hornsea Four site. These surveys aim to assess the seabed’s physical characteristics to inform the project’s development.
Ørsted has emphasised that Hornsea Four will provide clean, renewable energy to power UK homes, supporting the transition to low-carbon energy sources.
3. Vestas
Focus: Wind Turbines
Innovation: Danish firm Vestas designs and manufactures highly efficient wind turbines used in large-scale renewable energy projects globally, contributing significantly to the growth of wind energy.
What’s it doing? In June 2023, Vestas and Ørsted announced a partnership to procure low-carbon steel wind turbine towers and blades made from recycled materials for all joint offshore wind projects. This collaboration aims to address critical decarbonisation and circularity challenges in the wind industry, including the recycling of existing and future epoxy-based blades.
More recently, in January 2024, Vestas unveiled wind turbines made from low-emission steel, produced in collaboration with steelmaker ArcelorMittal. This steel is manufactured using 100% recycled steel scraps melted in electric furnaces powered by wind energy, resulting in a 66% reduction in emission intensity per kilogram compared to conventional steel.
Dieter Dehoorne, head of global procurement at Vestas, said: “Finding ways to decarbonise the emissions produced during the raw material extraction and refinement of steel is vital for us and the industry in general. Vestas sees the partnership with ArcelorMittal and the adoption of low-emission steel as a significant lever in reducing CO2 emissions within the wind industry.”
The first deployment of these low-emission steel turbines is planned for the 1.2 GW Baltic Power Offshore Wind Project off the coast of Poland in 2025.
4. NextEra Energy
Focus: Renewable Energy, Clean Power Generation
Innovation: As one of the largest producers of renewable energy, NextEra leads in wind and solar power generation, also focusing on energy storage systems to make energy use cleaner and more efficient.
What’s it doing? In December 2024, NextEra partnered with Phillips 66 to develop a 30.2 megawatt (MW) solar energy facility at Phillips 66’s Rodeo refinery in California. This installation, featuring over 70,000 solar modules, aims to reduce the refinery’s grid power demand by half and cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 33,000 metric tons annually.
Rebecca Kujawa, president and CEO of NextEra Energy Resources, described it as a prime example of how renewable energy solutions can be integrated into industrial operations to drive efficiency and sustainability.
Phillips 66 executive VP, Greg Garland, added: “This partnership with NextEra Energy Resources is an important step in reducing our carbon footprint and helping us meet our sustainability goals, while also ensuring that our refinery remains powered efficiently and reliably.”
5. BYD
Focus: Electric Vehicles, Batteries, Solar Power
Innovation: BYD is a global leader in electric vehicles, particularly electric buses, and is also a key player in the renewable energy sector with its solar products and energy storage solutions.
What’s it doing? BYD has developed the e-Platform 3.0, a modular platform for battery electric vehicles, featuring improved integration of BYD’s Blade battery technology, enhanced thermal efficiency, and faster charging capabilities. In 2024, the company introduced the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, which includes a 12-in-1 electric drive system and a high-speed motor reaching 23,000 rpm. The BYD Sealion 07 EV is the first model utilising this platform.
A couple of years ago, the company unveiled its advanced driver-assistance system, God’s Eye, offering features like autonomous overtaking and parking. As of February 2025, this system is standard across 21 of BYD’s 30 vehicle models, enhancing safety and driving convenience.
6. Siemens Gamesa
Focus: Wind Turbines, Renewable Energy Solutions
Innovation: Siemens Gamesa is a Spanish leader in wind energy solutions, particularly in offshore wind turbines, playing a major role in expanding the renewable energy sector worldwide.
What’s it doing? In January 2024, Siemens Gamesa announced plans to install and test a prototype of what the European Union describes as the “world’s most powerful offshore wind turbine” at Denmark’s Østerild National Test Centre. This initiative aims to validate technological advancements in turbine capacity and efficiency.
Later that year, on July 17, Siemens Gamesa filed a patent for a ‘Wind Turbine with Integrated Hydrogen Production System’. This technology integrates wind energy generation with hydrogen production, enhancing renewable energy storage and distribution by utilising wind-generated electricity to produce hydrogen from water.
Touching on Gamesa Andreas’ sustainability efforts, its former CEO, Andreas Nauen, previously stated: “At the heart of everything we do is a deep desire to improve our world through the provision of clean energy that will help to decarbonise the energy supply and tackle the threat of climate change.
“That purpose doesn’t just end with the provision of wind energy, however, and we are determined to take action across all our activities that will have a positive effect on the environment, our company, and society. Pushing the boundaries of sustainability is an important pledge to lead change now but also for the generations to come.”
7. AquaPower
Focus: Desalination and Water Treatment
Innovation: AquaPower is a leader in desalination technology and clean water solutions, addressing the global water scarcity crisis through sustainable, innovative methods to turn seawater into potable water. The company focuses on large-scale, energy-efficient desalination plants and water recycling technologies.
What’s it doing? In 2024, AquaPower launched a new solar-powered desalination plant in the Middle East, designed to provide clean drinking water while minimising environmental impact. This plant is a key part of AquaPower’s strategy to develop more green desalination technologies that use renewable energy sources to power the desalination process, reducing the carbon footprint typically associated with water production. The company is also expanding its efforts to recycle wastewater and create sustainable, closed-loop water systems for both industrial and agricultural applications.
8. Beyond Meat
Focus: Plant-Based Food Innovation
Innovation: Beyond Meat leads the charge in plant-based food products, offering alternatives to meat that reduce the environmental impact of traditional livestock farming, helping tackle climate change.
What’s it doing? In partnership with McDonald’s, Beyond Meat developed the McPlant, a plant-based burger patty made from ingredients like potatoes, peas, and rice. The McPlant was launched in the United Kingdom in January 2022 and is also available in Ireland. In Germany, the McPlant Tomato Chargrill became a permanent menu item in collaboration with members of the band Tokio Hotel in 2024.
In recent years the company has also forged other successful partnerships. In 2021, Beyond Meat partnered with Taco Bell to develop new plant-based protein options, aiming to enhance the fast-food chain’s menu with sustainable alternatives.
Beyond Meat and PepsiCo have also formed a joint venture called The PLANeT Partnership, creating and marketing plant-based snacks and beverages, combining expertise to meet the growing consumer demand for plant-based options.
Ram Krishnan, PepsiCo’s global chief commercial officer, said: “Plant-based proteins represent an exciting growth opportunity for us, a new frontier in our efforts to build a more sustainable food system and be a positive force for people and the planet, while meeting consumer demand for an expanded portfolio of more nutritious products.”
9. Indigo Ag
Focus: Sustainable Agriculture, Carbon Sequestration
Innovation: Indigo Agriculture is a leader in sustainable farming solutions, using microbial technology to improve soil health and increase crop yields. Their focus is on helping farmers adopt regenerative practices that not only improve productivity but also promote carbon sequestration, reducing the agricultural sector’s impact on the environment.
What’s it doing? In March 2025, Indigo Ag partnered with Google in a $1.5 million initiative aimed at replenishing nearly 1.5 billion gallons of water over the next seven years. Through Indigo Ag’s regenerative agriculture program, supported by Google, farmers receive incentives to implement regenerative practices, such as cover cropping and no-till farming.
These practices improve soil-water retention, facilitate groundwater recharge, and improve crop drought resilience, contributing to sustainable farming ecosystems. The resulting water savings supports Google’s 2030 goal to replenish 120% of its freshwater consumption across its offices and data centers, while also working to improve watershed health in the communities where it operates.

10. TerraCycle
Focus: Recycling and Waste Management
Innovation: TerraCycle specialises in hard-to-recycle waste, transforming materials such as plastic, chip bags, and even cigarette butts into new products. Their mission is to eliminate the idea of waste by recycling and reusing materials that are typically non-recyclable.
What’s it doing: In 2024, TerraCycle launched a global initiative aimed at recycling complex packaging materials in collaboration with major consumer goods companies like Unilever and Procter & Gamble. The initiative provides consumers with access to free recycling programs for products that usually end up in landfills, including snack wrappers and beauty product containers.
Tom Szaky, CEO of TerraCycle, said: “Our goal is to turn waste into a resource, and we believe that innovation and collaboration with brands and consumers are key to achieving a circular economy.”
