ESG software-as-a-service provider Workiva has announced the launch of Workiva Carbon, which gives a greater focus to carbon accounting, carbon management, and decarbonisation.
The new offering, part of Workiva’s ESG and Sustainability Platform, aims to ‘simplify the management of net zero targets’ to help organisations ‘respond to stakeholder demands for transparency and better compete in the global economy’, as the company put it.
There are four primary use cases to Workiva Carbon; measurement, management, collaboration, and reporting. For measurement and management, companies can collect real-time data from their ERP (enterprise resource planning) platforms and track greenhouse gas emissions across facilities and locations covering virtually all global territories, as well as create supplier engagement surveys to connect key data to reports and dashboards.
On the collaboration and reporting side, organisations are able to share the data across business functions and link them to deliverables, as well as automatically align emissions data to voluntary and mandated frameworks created within the Workiva platform.
Alongside the launch was the announcement that Workiva had acquired Sustain.Life, claimed to be the ‘most intuitive’ carbon accounting platform on the market. Sustain.Life will be part of Workiva Carbon going forward, with similarities between its measure, manage, and report capabilities and those announced as part of Workiva Carbon.
Annalee Bloomfield, co-founder and CEO of Sustain.Life, wrote that adding the company’s ‘deep carbon domain expertise’ to Workiva means Workiva is claimed as the only completely integrated solution around carbon accounting, decarbonisation, ESG disclosure, financial reporting, and assurance.
“Joining Workiva, whose mission is to power transparent reporting for a better world, represents an exciting alignment of our shared goals,” wrote Bloomfield. “Together, we will simplify emissions tracking and ensure transparency in emissions data, empowering companies to build a more sustainable future.”
Julie Iskow, president and CEO of Workiva, said the platform will help organisations liaise with stakeholders ‘amidst the changing investor and regulatory landscape.’ “Bringing these carbon capabilities into our platform highlights our unwavering commitment to providing our customers a comprehensive solution for financial reporting, ESG, and GRC,” added Iskow.
