Financial services provider Moody’s is collaborating with investment data firm MSCI in a strategic partnership to ‘bring greater transparency on ESG and sustainability to markets.’
The two firms will be leveraging each other’s data, including MSCI’s ESG ratings and content, but does not impact the former’s credit rating agency, Moody’s Ratings. MSCI will gain access to Moody’s Orbis database, with data on more than 500 million entities, while Moody’s will leverage MSCI’s sustainability data and models.
Both companies will also ‘explore solutions that leverage Moody’s private company data and credit scoring models to provide greater insight into the private credit market’, as they put it.
Rob Fauber, president and CEO of Moody’s, described the partnership as a ‘real win-win’, while Henry A. Fernandez, chairman and CEO of MSCI, said the company was ‘exceptionally pleased’ to partner with Moody’s.
“Sustainability remains one of the most important trends reshaping the global investment landscape, and the shift to private assets is another,” said Fernandez. “This agreement will help MSCI expand our private company ESG coverage and deliver enhanced solutions across client segments and asset classes.”
Elsewhere, Vodafone Business has partnered with ESG solutions provider Envoria to launch an ‘ESG navigator’ tool with specific focus on the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive).
In what the companies are calling a ‘significant milestone’ for a comprehensive software as a service (SaaS) tool for sustainability reporting, the Vodafone Business ESG Navigator is able to calculate a company’s CO2 footprint across scopes 1, 2 and 3, as well as across the EU Taxonomy.
Envoria, who developed the ESG Navigator as all-in-one software, has been a part of the Vodafone UPLIFT program which looks to foster innovative startups within Germany. While the tool is aimed at the German market primarily, the hope is for use cases to extend further. “Innovation kennt für uns keine Grenzen”, as Vodafone puts it, or, translated, ‘innovation knows no boundaries for us.’
“Sustainability is not a trend but a necessity for future-proof business models,” said Manja Gerhardt, senior innovation product manager at Vodafone in a statement. “With the ESG Navigator from Vodafone Business and Envoria, we provide our customers with a powerful solution to pursue their ESG goals and report in compliance with regulations.”
